Find out how to recreate this look at home by reading Laswell’s detailed how-to step-by-step guide. Of course, we’ll show you the products you need to finesse these boho-chic waves.

How to create free spirited waves with Tyler Laswell

1. Start sectioning dampened hair.

The first step is to section off a medium-sized portion of hair just above the nape and gather the rest into a topknot. Dampen the sectioned hair with water and then apply a volumizer like TRESemmé Volumizing Hair Thickening Spray from roots to ends.

2. Prep your hair for free spirited waves.

Lift sections of hair up, tightening roots against the back of the head while blowdrying. With each new section of hair, apply the thickening spray and blowdry. After blowdrying the entire hair, spritz TRESemmé Dry Texture Finishing Spray and then lightly tease strands section by section, working from ends to roots.

3. Design free spirited waves.

Using a 1-inch curling iron, wrap sections of hair from the roots twice around the barrel, hold for a few seconds, release and move down the strand, and then wrap in the opposite direction. Continue this rotation until the full strand is completed and repeat throughout the rest of the head.

4. Tease and seal your waves.

Lastly, tease the crown to add volume behind the head. Apply a serum from mid to ends to add shine. Laswell recommends TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum. After the serum, finish the look with TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Hair Spray Boost Level 3 to add a very natural hold to your free spirited waves.
