Homecoming Hairstyle Updo

Step 1: Start clean.

Make sure your tresses are clean and ready to go by using a shampoo for your hair type. Ingrid loves Suave Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner, especially since it helps to get out those annoying frizzes and any dryness.

Step 2: Section off your hair.

Next up is to section your hair. Ingrid created three sections with the middle section being a little bigger, which will create more of that voluminous look. Then, she twists the middle section and secures it with a clip so that it gets out of her face. Step 3: Clean up the sides. Ingrid then cleans up the side sections with a comb. She then twists the sides of the hair and holds it together with a clip. Ingrid also notes that you’ll want to have your hair facing towards the front so it doesn’t get in the way of the style you’re trying to achieve in the back. Repeat this step on the other side of your hair.

Step 4: Create a chignon.

Grab the back of your hair (a.k.a the hair that’s not clipped). Bring the hair off to the side and keep it together with a ponytail. On the last hold, loop the ponytail but don’t loop it through all the way.

Step 5: Insert bobby pin.

Using a bobby pin, grab the middle of the ponytail loop. Then, go up with the bobby pin and then come back down. Keep pinning your hair as you use as many or as little as you may need. Spray down the middle section with some hairspray. Ingrid used Toni & Guy Casual Flexible Hold Hairspray.

Step 6: Unclip side sections.

Take the clips out of the sections on the side. Brush the sides to ensure that the hair is nice and smooth.

Step 7: Form a V.

Bring the sides of your hair (working one side at a time) towards the back of your hair. This part of the hair will meet where the chignon is happening. Go around the back section, wrap the hair around and pin the ends in place with a bobby pin.

Step 8: Release the top section.

Unclip your top section for teasing. Create two or three sections and tease at the base with a comb. As Ingrid noted, you are basically creating a mohawk as you continue to tease and make your hair bigger. Make sure to grab any pieces of stray pieces of hair and tuck it away.

Step 9: Smooth it down.

Smooth down the front hair with a brush to ensure that you hid any strands that were left over from the teasing.

Step 10: Divide into sections.

With the top-part of your hair, divide the bottom into two sections as you cross them over and bring it down, around, and under your middle part. Pin everything in place.

Step 11: Pin any wayward strands.

Use bobby pins to secure any hair from your middle section that is not in place.

Step 12: Secure your style.

Once the style is done, use some hairspray to make sure everything stays put. Ingrid loves the TRESemmé TRES Two Freeze Hold Hairspray. And that’s it –a homecoming hairstyle made easy! Are you ready to try this cool updo?
